1. (a) Explain the characteristics of simple harmonic motion.
(b) What do you understand by term polarization light from ordinary light?
(c) What is displacement current? Explain.
(d) Write the laws of photoelectric effect.
(e) What is Fermi level? Explain.
(f) Explain the role of Fiber optics in communications.
UNIT – I
2. (a) What are the properties of ultrasonics? Write about the production of ultrasonics
using the piezoelectric oscillator method.
Or
(b) Describe Newton's ring experiment to determine the wavelength of monochromatic
light with necessary Theory.
UNIT – II
3. (a) State and example Biot - Saver's law calculate 'B' due to long straight wire by
using it.
Or
(b) State and explain Faraday and Lenz's law of electromagnetic induction obtain the
expression for the self induction of a solenoid.
UNIT – III
4. (a) Explain the de Broglie concept of matter waves. Explain how matter wave are
experimentally demonstrated.
Or
(b) Explain the principle and working of G - M Counter and discuss its merits and
demerits.
UNIT – IV

5. (a) Discuss the Laser principle and characteristics of a laser beam.
(b) Describe an expression for Numerical aperture and acceptance angle of optical
fibre.
Or
(c) What is super conductivity? Write a note High Tc Superconductors.
(d) What is Kerr and Faraday effects? Explain the characteristics of phototransistor.
