Paper III — INDIAN ENGLISH LITERATURE
Time : Three hours Maximum : 100 marks
Question No. 1 in Unit I is compulsory.
Answer any TWO questions each from Unit II and III.
All questions carry equal marks.
UNIT I
1. Annotate any FOUR of the following:

UNIT II

2. Examine the mysticism of Sri Aurobindo in the poems prescribed.
3. Discuss the symbolism in Ezekiel’s Enterprise.
4. Critically comment on Kamala Das’ feminism in the poems prescribed for your study.
5. Evaluate Tagore as a dramatist of ideas with a special reference to The King of the Dark
Chamber.
6. Attempt a critical appreciation of Tagore’s Man.
UNIT III
7. Discuss Tagore as poet of Man, Nature and God with a special reference to Gitanjali.
8. Write a critical note on the plot and structure of the play Hayavadana.
9. Examine the themes of the stories of RajaRao in
On the Ganga Ghat.
10. Critically comment on R.K. Narayan’s satire and humour in A Tiger for Malgudi.
11. Discuss the theme of alienation in Arun Joshi’s The Last Labyrinth.
12. Write short notes on any FOUR of the following:
(a) Symbolism in The symbol Dawn (Canto I, Book I)
(b) Anand’s social realism in Untouchable.
(c) Anita Desai’s feminism in A Fire on the Mountain.
(d) The justification of the title of the novel
That Gory Silence.
(e) The theme of Autobiography of a Yogi.
(f) Ambedkar as a statesman.
(g) Night of the Scorpion as a modern epic.
(h) The theme of the poem The Moon Moments.
